In the course of normal business the Montgomery County Archives (MCA) created correspondence, reports, institutional histories, and images. The Montgomery County Archives Collection materials date from 1994 to 2021. These materials record the founding, objectives, plans, and daily business of the archives. Furthermore, this collection also consists of publications that used records, including photographs, from the MCA.

This collection consists of publications by the First United Methodist Church of Montgomery, Alabama, pertaining to the history of the organization, and architecture of the establishment, and the stories of its congregation.

This collection consists of issues (printed on paper) of the “Montgomery Genealogical Society Quarterly,” an organizational pamphlet, books, and maps. The “Montgomery Genealogical Society Quarterly” issues range from 1994 to 2019. The range is not
complete. However, it does have every issue published between summer 2008 and July 2014. The pamphlets provide a brief history of the Montgomery Genealogical Society, a list of society-produced publications for sale, a description of benefits of membership, as well as a form to apply for and instruction on how to join the Society. In February 2016, Montgomery Genealogical Society Member Terry Ingram donated a volume titled The Heritage of Montgomery County, Alabama. The book contains information about various subjects pertaining to Montgomery County. These subjects include: officers and participants of the Montgomery
County Heritage group, as well as individuals who helped create the book; history of Montgomery County; communities and towns within Montgomery; historic buildings; businesses; medical; military; civil rights; churches; cemeteries; schools; organizations; arts- theater-events; professional people/public officials; public agencies/institutions; parks and recreation; sports; restaurants; sites, scenes and memories; family stories; tributes, memorials and business advertisements. Ruth Ott, also of the Montgomery Genealogical Society, in February 2016 donated a highway map of Montgomery County created in 2002. The map documents the location of several cemeteries within Montgomery County.

The Shackleford Family Collection consists of paper-based research files, paper-based photographs, and a CD containing photographs about and depicting Pintlala, Alabama’s Shackleford family. The research files consist of a Pintlala Historical Association newsletter from 2011 focusing on the Shackleford family. The photographs and a scrapbook belonged to Mary Fleta Shackleford, granddaughter of George Shackleford. Most of the photographs appear to date from the late nineteenth century.

The John Dowe Collection consists of family correspondence, financial and legal records, photographs and postcards sent and received by the Dowe family, scrapbooks, publications, and ephemera. Most of the collection’s document-based records date from circa 1900 to 2007. The scrapbooks range from the 1880s to roughly the mid-twentieth century. The photographs begin in circa1870 and appear to end in the early-to-mid 2000s. The Dowe Collection especially documents the history and activities of the Dowe family in Montgomery, Alabama, as well as their travels throughout the United States, Canada, and Europe. It especially documents much of John Dowe’s life, from his birth in 1911, to his death in 2007.

The collection entirely consists of framed photographs of athletes, coaches, officials, administrators, and others who made a contribution to athletics in Montgomery, Autauga, and Elmore County, Alabama.

The Lyn Frazer Collection consists of a single photograph of a woman named Carrie Melton Hill. The photograph, taken on August 26, 1902, depicts Hill in her wedding dress and vail.

Microfiche and microfilm copies of Montgomery County Judge of Probate-created records compose this collection. Records in the collection include marriage licenses, real property records, personal property records, charters of incorporation, apartment and condominium ownership records, mortgage records, and judicial records created by the Montgomery County Judge of Probate. The judicial records contain a wide variety of record types, including probated estates, wills, guardianship records, and more. Records in the collection also include birth and death records, Uniform Commercial Codes, Orphans Court records, military discharge records, election results, lists of registered physicians, etc. While some gaps in the collection do exist, the records in the collection span from 1817 to the present.
